Magento: The Shopping Cart Software Savior
I have run several eCommerce businesses in the past. One of the biggest problems is dealing with an open source community, paying too much for a pay cart only to find out the pay cart is based on that open commerce one that you hate, and dealing with foreign languages. In addition to that, they all template differently, and you have limited features and functionality.
Well, say GOODBYE to all of those problems!
Say hello to Magento Commerce. Enjoy.
I will be writing a more comprehensive piece on this software as I use it and get more in-depth with it.

Hey Dan,
I was curious what your affiliation with Magento is. I am looking to start a new ecommerce site for a client and was leaning towards zen-cart and came across Magento through a forum.
Obviously SEO would be one of the most important parts of the store and looks like you are pretty familiar with the industry. What are your thoughts on this system?
I am not affiliated with Magento in any way.
SEO is a very big part of any eCommerce store. I can’t even begin to tell you the horror stories I have encountered using the old systems like X-Cart and osCommerce. I also hated using the “catalog” utility that transfers dynamic product pages into HTML pages. Each time I would update a product or add product to my stores, I was forced to re-run the HTML Catalog wizards. This got old very fast.
Magento using search friendly pages from the start. The page structures are obviously much better and planned for optimal SEO use. The best part is, the crawlers can get to the actual product pages rather than having to hunt down some HTML catalog. This is a sure fire way to get into the SERPs.
Magento is currently in it’s beta at the moment but I highly recommend waiting or convincing your client to wait, because when a release candidate is available it will be a major step for any eCommerce platform. I believe if you don’t want to wait, you can start using their current version, and then just upgrade.
how do you get around magento not being PCI compliant? if you want to take credit cards directly and not shuttle it off to paypass or google, isnt this required in 2008?
Does Magento offer any type of affiliate marketing features? It’s a nice looking shopping cart, but 1-tier (min) or 2-tier (prefered) affiliate marketing features.
